As of March 2009, WATASOL devices are in operation in almost 50 countries, through community-based organisations, NGOs and local community and private enterprises. From 2009 onwards, the outreach of WATASOL is expected to surge significantly, through the expansion of a partnership model between Antenna Technologies and community enterprises, on a franchise basis.
Based on the principle of WATASOL devices operating on a 12-hour day, the installed capacity world-wide in March 2009 represents the potential production of enough active chlorine to treat the daily clean water requirements of 3,330,000 people.
A selection of Watasol partnership programmes in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea-Conakry, Mali and Nepal is described further in this section on Programmes.
