Every month, the central hospital of Dabola receives some 250 cases of water-borne diseases –helminthiases (worm vectored), typhoid fever and bleeding diarrhoea. Most cases are young children. Yet, caused by drinking contaminated water, these diseases could be permanently avoided through public education and disinfecting the water with active chlorine.

Set up by Guinean specialists in public health, the NGO TINKISSO
includes water treatment in its scope, with a focus on dealing
permanently with water-borne diseases in the Dabola prefecture area.
Its mission is to provide local communities with information and the
necessary tools for access to drinking water.Embedded is their water
access project is the local production of
active chlorine, using WATA
devices. They have developed solid skills
in using this equipment, in disinfection techniques and in the
chlorination of drinking water. At present, TINKISSO and Antenna
Technologies are cooperating in partnership mode for two
years to
establish a cost-recovery system through community participation.
Local people are reached by TINKISSO through community agents trained in the chlorination of drinking water and disinfection, alongside extension work with heads of households. They sell keenly-priced active chlorine and dispense advice through a network of 16 kiosks throughout the sub-prefecture area of Dabola-centre, and in both rural and urban areas.
These multi-functional kiosks provide the base for four
